Do I Need a Notary Stamp in Montana?
Montana Notary Stamps – Yes! Required
According to the Notary Handbook published by Montana’s Secretary of State, it is the notary’s responsibility to purchase and keep an official seal upon receiving a commission. Seal here refers exclusively to inking stamp. As of October 1, 2013, notaries seeking new or renewed commissions cannot use embossers.
The inked stamp should be a rectangular unit around 1-inch in Height and 2.5-inches in Width (1Hx2.5W). You will need to choose either black or blue ink. A rectangular border surrounding the required pieces of information listed below is also mandated.
The official seal for Montana notaries includes two (2) distinct portions: a block of text on the right and circular seal on the left.
The block of text will include the notary’s name as it appears on his or her commission, the words “Notary Public for the State of Montana”, “Residing at [+Name of the City or Town of Residence]”, and “My Commission Expires [+Commission Expiration Date] {To be be expressed in terms of the fully spelled-out month, day, and four-digit year; i.e January 20, 2036}.
The circular seal must have the notary’s name as it appears on his or her commission, and the words “Notarial Seal” and “State of Montana”.
Again, a rectangular border should enclose the circular seal and block of text. Contact an appropriate vendor for solutions.
